Can Mercury always be combust since it is so close to the Sun?

Mercury's maximum elongation from the Sun is about 28 degrees, and the combustion orb is 14 degrees for direct Mercury. This means Mercury can be outside the combust orb. Many charts have Mercury 16 to 28 degrees from the Sun and entirely uncombust. Check the actual degree difference in any chart before assuming Mercury is combust.

Is Budhaditya Yoga cancelled when Mercury is combust?

No, the yoga is not cancelled. Budhaditya Yoga is defined as Mercury and the Sun in the same sign, and most instances involve combustion since Mercury is always near the Sun. Classical texts treat this as part of the yoga's nature. The closer Mercury is to the Sun, the more internalized the yoga's expression tends to be, but the yoga stands.

Does a combust 7th lord always mean a difficult marriage?

No. A combust 7th lord means the 7th house themes require more attention and may not flow easily. Marriage may come later, or the partnership may require more effort to sustain. Does retrograde change how combustion works?

Yes, it tightens the orb. Mercury retrograde uses 12 degrees instead of 14. Venus retrograde uses 8 degrees instead of 10. A direct planet at 13 degrees from the Sun is not combust, but a retrograde Mercury at 13 degrees from the Sun is combust under classical rules. Always check whether the planet is retrograde when working near the boundary orbs.

Can a combust planet also be in planetary war?

Yes. Planetary war (graha yuddha) happens when two planets are within one degree of each other. If both happen to be near the Sun, one is combust and the two are also in war. The two conditions are assessed separately. Combustion is about proximity to the Sun. War is about proximity to another planet. Both affect the weaker planet.

Is cross-sign combustion valid?

Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra does not restrict combustion to the same sign. If a planet is within the orb of the Sun across a sign boundary, it is combust in the Parashara framework. Some later commentators restrict this to the same sign. Both positions have classical backing. When in doubt, treat a cross-sign planet within 5 degrees as combust and one beyond 8 degrees as unlikely to be significantly affected.

Online content says combust Saturn causes relationship problems with the father. Is this accurate?

Saturn combust can create friction in areas ruled by Saturn, including duties, discipline, and structures. The Sun represents the father in Jyotish, and Saturn combust means the Sun-Saturn natural enmity is expressed at close range. Difficulties with authority figures, the father's side of the family, or with long-term planning can appear. This is a tendency, not a guaranteed outcome, and depends on lagna, sign, and dasha period.

Does combustion affect the planet's karakatvas or its house rulership more?

Both are affected, but house rulership tends to show more clearly in timed events. Karakatva effects (such as Jupiter's signification for wisdom or Venus's for comfort) show more as personal tendencies and are often less absolute than house effects. In timing work, focus on the ruled houses first.

What if both the Sun and the combust planet are in the same nakshatra?

Being in the same nakshatra adds another layer of connection between the two bodies but does not fundamentally change the combustion rules. The degree orb still determines the intensity of combustion. Nakshatra co-tenancy may slightly intensify the Sun-planet bond for purposes of reading themes, but it is not an independent combustion factor.

Can gemstones reduce combustion effects?
