Calculation Methodology - NAKSHATRA
Transparency on calculation standards, systems, and source texts.
Calculation Engine
All astrological calculations on NAKSHATRA use Swiss Ephemeris, the most accurate open-source ephemeris available. We use sidereal mode with Lahiri Ayanamsa (Chitrapaksha), which is the standard ayanamsa for Vedic astrology in India.
House System
NAKSHATRA uses the Whole Sign house system as the primary house division, consistent with classical Parashari Jyotish. The Ascendant (Lagna) sign becomes the first house, and each subsequent sign is one house.
Dasha System
Vimshottari Dasha is calculated from the Moon's Nakshatra position at birth. The 120-year cycle follows the classical sequence from BPHS. Sub-dashas (Antardashas) and sub-sub-dashas (Pratyantardashas) are calculated to full precision.
Divisional Charts
Divisional charts (Vargas) from D1 through D60 are calculated using classical divisional rules from BPHS. Each divisional chart uses the same Swiss Ephemeris planetary positions divided into the relevant number of segments.
Shadbala
Planetary strength (Shadbala) is calculated following the six-component system from BPHS: Sthana Bala, Dik Bala, Kala Bala, Chesta Bala, Naisargika Bala, and Drik Bala.
