Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how NAKSHATRA processes birth details to generate Vedic astrology charts, and how we handle limited-retention chart snapshots for shareable Chart IDs. Last updated: April 15, 2026.

Introduction

NAKSHATRA is a free Vedic astrology web platform providing tools for birth charts, panchang, muhurat timings, and related Jyotish calculations. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle any information you provide while using the site. NAKSHATRA is an independent platform operated in India.

Data Categories We Process

To perform astrological calculations, you may enter the following information. This data is transmitted to our servers to compute your chart. To enable tool-to-tool navigation and shareable chart links, we store a chart snapshot for a limited time (see below).

(a) Full name — used solely to label the generated chart display
(b) Date of birth in DD/MM/YYYY format — used to calculate planetary positions
(c) Time of birth in HH:MM format — used to compute the Ascendant and house positions
(d) City of birth and its geographic coordinates (latitude, longitude, timezone) — used to resolve the local birth time to UTC for astronomical computation

We do not collect government ID numbers, financial information, biometric data, or any other sensitive personal data. No account creation is required.

How We Process Data

All data you enter is transmitted securely to our server, processed to perform the astrological calculation, and the result is returned to your browser.

Chart snapshots (limited retention): When you generate a chart, we store a snapshot on disk for up to 7 days so that (a) the same Chart ID can be opened later, and (b) you can open other tools (Divisional Charts, Shadbala, Ashtakavarga, etc.) for the same chart without re-entering details. This snapshot may include the name you entered and your birth details (date/time/place) along with the computed results. Snapshots are automatically deleted after the retention window.

To delete your anonymized chart snapshot before the 7-day window expires, email support@ournakshatra.com with the subject line "Delete my chart" and include your Chart ID (visible in the URL of your chart page, e.g. abc123xyz). We will delete it within 72 hours and send a confirmation.

Data is not used for advertising, profiling, or sold to any third party.

Device Storage

Some pages use your browser's sessionStorage to temporarily store chart results for faster display during the same session. The Muhurat Finder may store your last selected place in localStorage to prefill it on your next visit. You can clear both at any time through your browser settings.

Third-Party Services

We use Google Fonts to load typography used on the site. When fonts are loaded, your browser may connect to Google’s servers to fetch font files.

Cross-border transfers: When your browser loads Google Fonts from Google servers, your IP address and standard request metadata may be transferred outside India. By proceeding with the site after viewing this notice, you acknowledge this transfer. We are evaluating self-hosting fonts to eliminate this transfer.

If analytics is enabled at launch, we will request your consent before loading any analytics scripts. Analytics will not run unless you explicitly consent.

Our servers log standard technical data (IP address, user agent, and request path) for security, abuse prevention, and rate limiting. We do not use these logs to identify you personally. Server logs are retained for up to 7 days and then permanently deleted.

Data Deletion & Your Rights

You can request deletion of a stored chart snapshot before the 7-day retention window expires by emailing support@ournakshatra.com with the subject line "Delete my chart" and including your Chart ID (visible in the URL of your chart page). We will delete it within 72 hours and send a confirmation.

Children's Data
