About this tool
The Composite Chart is not synastry. Rather than comparing two charts side by side, a composite chart treats the relationship itself as a third, independent chart — created by taking the midpoint of each planet from both people's natal charts. The result is a chart that describes the relationship's own identity: its purpose, emotional tone, communication style, shared strengths, and long-term pattern. Enter both people's birth details below to generate your composite chart.

The Composite Chart Explained
A composite chart is the chart of the relationship itself — not a comparison of two people, but a third entity born from the midpoint between them.
1
What a Composite Chart Is
A composite chart is calculated by taking the mathematical midpoint of each planet from both natal charts. The Sun midpoint becomes the composite Sun; the Moon midpoint, the composite Moon — and so on through all ten planets and the chart angles. The result is a brand-new chart that belongs to neither person, but to the relationship between them.
Not Synastry
Synastry compares two charts overlay-style — whose Venus falls on whose Mars. The composite chart makes no such comparison. It describes the relationship itself as if it were a living entity with its own chart.
The Midpoint Method
Each planetary position is averaged between the two charts. If Person A's Sun is at 10° Aries and Person B's Sun is at 20° Aries, the composite Sun falls at 15° Aries. The same logic applies to every planet and angle.
Accuracy Requires Both Birth Times
The composite Ascendant and house cusps depend on exact birth times for both people. If either time is unknown, planetary placements will still be valid but house positions will not be reliable.
2
Key Composite Points
The most important placements in the composite chart tell the story of what the relationship fundamentally is and what it needs to thrive.
Composite Sun
The core purpose of the relationship. What the relationship is fundamentally about and what it is trying to become. The composite Sun sign and house describe the central theme the two people are here to develop together.
Composite Moon
The emotional bond. How the relationship feels from the inside, how emotional needs are met (or not), and what the relationship needs to feel secure and nourished. The composite Moon is the relationship's emotional signature.
Composite Rising (Ascendant)
How the relationship presents itself to the world. The public face of the partnership — how others see it, and what energy it projects outward as a unit.
Composite Chart Ruler
The planet ruling the composite Ascendant. Its sign, house, and condition act as the steering wheel of the entire chart — the factor that most shapes how the relationship expresses and navigates the world.
Composite Venus & Mars
Venus describes affection, attraction, and shared aesthetic values. Mars describes drive, passion, conflict style, and sexual energy within the relationship. Their signs, houses, and aspects are central to understanding the relational dynamic.
3
Reading Composite Aspects
Aspects between composite planets describe the internal dynamics of the relationship: what flows easily, what generates tension, and what requires conscious work.
Conjunction
The two planetary energies merge and intensify. The relationship is strongly marked by both themes at once — this is one of the most powerful aspects in a composite chart.
Opposition
The relationship contains a fundamental polarity. Two drives pull in opposite directions, requiring balance and awareness. Often shows up as recurring push-pull or as complementary strengths.
Square
A friction point that generates energy and pressure. Squares in the composite chart often indicate areas where the relationship must actively work to find resolution — but they also drive growth and intensity.
Trine
Natural flow and ease between two energies. The relationship benefits from a built-in harmony here — things tend to align without effort in this domain.
Sextile
A cooperative aspect that supports communication and collaboration. Sextiles indicate areas where the relationship has productive resources to draw on — though these often require conscious activation.
4
House Emphasis in the Composite Chart
Planets clustered in certain composite houses reveal where the relationship focuses its energy and what areas of life it naturally develops through.
1st–4th Houses (Angular / Personal)
Relationships with emphasis here are intensely personal. The focus is on identity, home, emotional roots, and shared private life. These are often deeply bonding, sometimes insular relationships.
5th–8th Houses (Succedent / Relational)
Romance, creativity, shared resources, and transformation are the central themes. Relationships with this emphasis tend to be highly engaging, often sexually charged and emotionally deep.
9th–12th Houses (Cadent / Aspirational)
Philosophy, travel, spirituality, and hidden depths define the relationship's focus. These partnerships often have a sense of larger purpose or feel fated. The 12th house in particular can produce a private, hidden, or karmic quality.
